Midday

Midday Prayer - Renew & Stretch

It's time to "stretch" our muscles and our spirit, to catch our breath in the hustle of the day.

Beginning

   In the name of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

     -or-

   In the name of God: Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.

Our opening scripture readings and prayers
remind us to keep
looking to our God
for what we need
in this day.

Midday Reminder: Proverbs 30:7-9

   “O God, I beg two favors from you;

   let me have them before I die.

   First, help me never to tell a lie.

   Second, give me neither poverty nor riches!

   Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.

   For if I grow rich,
   I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?”

   And if I am too poor,
   I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.”

The Tax Collector’s Prayer (Luke 18:13)
   God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
   Our Father, who art in heaven,
   hallowed be Thy name;
   Thy kingdom come;
   Thy will be done;
   on earth as it is in heaven.
   Give us this day our daily bread
   and forgive us our trespasses
   as we forgive those who trespass against us.
   And lead us not into temptation;
   but deliver us from evil.
   For thine is the kingdom, and the power
   and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Here for a few moments
you use your own words
to express the things
that are on your mind
and in your heart.
Our final prayer sends
us back into the day
with anticipation.

Your Heart & Mind:

Is there anything on your heart you would ask of God?

What is happening within you in this day?

Who would you ask God to bless right now?

The Prayer of Paul (Ephesians 3:14-19)

   I bow my knee, mind and will

   to be filled with your Spirit,

   making my heart a home for Christ.

   And with Christ I would know

   his love beyond all depth,

   height, length and breadth: Fullness.

Breathe deeply until you are still:
   Amen.

     - or -

   Let it be.
